about us

The Miles Better workshop is run by Jim and Caroline Clennell and is based near Stroud, in Gloucestershire. It covers Bristol, Cheltenham, Swindon, Gloucester, Cirencester and Bath. We also operate a mobile service, so by arrangement, we can travel to your site anywhere in the UK - or overseas.

We have been writing about cars for years. You can follow Caroline’s money-saving motoring blog online or get in touch for advice, consultancy or training. Miles Better has been approved dealers for VIEZU Technology since 2018, offering what we believe to be the best and safest engine maps on the market. VIEZU technology has been used to map thousands of commercial vehicles, including 24,000 BT vans, saving millions on fuel bills and reducing emissions. VIEZU also powers racing cars and is involved in high profile motorsports.

In response to requests for the service from our customers, we will soon be launching miles better shine - our all-female valeting and detailing crew. Watch this space for more news.

what do the owners say about miles better?

In 1971, my Dad took me to watch Jackie Stewart win the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Although I was only six years old, I was spellbound by the speed and power of the cars, and although I haven’t become a racing driver, that passion has never gone away. The first car I mapped was my beloved Fiat Coupé. In those days the process was different, and known as “chipping” - it literally involved removing a car’s engine management chip and plugging in a modified one. My car was transformed! I couldn’t believe that such a simple process could have such a profound effect. I drove it with a smile on my face for over 50,000 miles. Technology has moved on, and I’m delighted to be able to share new and exciting improvements to customers’ vehicles using award-winning technology by VIEZU.  VIEZU also partners Team HARD in the British Touring Car Championship - another of my favourite motorsport series!

I’ve been a car lover all my life and involved in the motor industry since 2016, when we bought a ChipsAway franchise and learnt to spray cars.  It was quite a career change, although I have always enjoyed painting in my spare time. I previously worked as a strategist in central government, and a university lecturer.   I’m one of the founders of Miles Better, which was developed through two of my passions: helping people drive for less money, and helping cars ‘clean up their act’ and lessen their impact on the environment. The future may be electric, hydrogen- or bio-fuel, but there are still 12.4 million diesel cars on the UK’s roads that need to reduce their Co2 emissions.

I am currently researching for my book Money-Saving Motoring - so look out for it when it is published on this website. I am also proud to have established POWAS (The Promotion of Women in the Automotive Sector) and was recently invited to speak at the London Motor Show, about my experience as a woman in the motor industry.
